The Castle was built by the Obizzi Family, who arrived in Italy from Burgundy following the Emperor Arrigo in 1007. Pio Enea I degli Obizzi, with the help of the architect Andrea Da Valle, built a mansion whose exterior brings to mind the image of a military fortress but is also a princely house.

Catajo Castle is open to the public four days a week on Sunday, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays afternoon and on Bankholidays
